Thank you.

The Welsh Society had a very successful dedication ceremony on Sunday, October 6, 2002.  Over eighty people observed the singing of the Welsh National Anthem ÒHen Wlad Fy NhadauÓ by Ross Elwood Thomas and ÒGod Bless AmericaÓ by Linda Whittington, the speeches and ribbon cutting.  An estimated 200 people toured the museum.  Mr. Ray Gottfred and his wife had flown up from Florida to be on hand for the dedication.  He also brought twenty-one different views of the snow cruiser on refrigerator magnets for us to sell.

The museum needs more items for display, since exhibits will be changing.  Three or four ÒSpecial weekendÓ exhibits are planned for each year.  Also the Gomer-Elida school children will be visiting the museum during the year and items ÒspecialÓ to them, like antique toys etc. are needed.  Our yearly budget of $3000.00 will need to be maintained by special events, selling museum items and especially by monetary donations!

The museum will be opened the second and fourth Sunday of each month (1:30-4:00 PM) or by appointment.  Please call Tom Evans (419-642-3445, Dave Whittington (419-642-5911), Carla Olds (419-999-5820), Kay Studer (419-642-2538), or Alice Bushong (419-331-3651) for assistance.

Why are so many Welsh people named Jones?  It seems very queer when we realize,

There is no letter ÒJÓ in the Welsh alphabet.

HereÕs a little story, which may explain it.

ÒIn ages long past, Wales was torn by Saxon strife and conquered.  Unable to understand the real Welsh names like RhysapGwyllim, the Saxon Chief was in despair.  Legend says he-

Doffed his wig and tore his hair,

He swore he would no longer stand

The surnames of our native land.

ÒTake ten, and call them Price.

Now Roberts name a hundred more,

And Williams call some twenty score.

And call,Ó he moaned, in languid tones.

ÒCall all the other thousands, Jones.Ó
