á      A few autographed baseballs from the ÒSportÕs DayÓ are available at the museum for $25.00 each.   The baseballs were autographed by five semi/pro major league players from Gomer.

á       Saturday, June 21, 2003 Ð Gomer Welsh Community Museum Antique Farm Machinery & ÒGrangeÓ Style Bake Sale:  Where Ð Museum   Time Ð 9:00-2:00 PM.  This is a very important fundraiser for the museum this year.  Contact Bill Williams (419)642-4864 if you have any  antique  farm-related items and Gloria Sherer (419)221-0147 & Wilma Evans (419)642-3445 the bake sale items.  You may receive a call from Verona Sandy and Leola Stemen reminding you to participate.  Please wrap and price your baked goods, and have them to the museum around 8:00 AM on Saturday morning.  Suggested items for sale: pies, cakes, cookies, jams/jellies, noodles, garden produce, bread, popcorn balls etc.  Please attach your recipe with your items (perhaps it was taken from the Grange cookbook or family member) and was an important part of the community.  We would appreciate any help in selling/explaining items if you choose to stay for any part of the five hours.  This is the same day as the Community Gomer Garage Sale, but the society decided not to do a garage sale this year.

 

á       Items needed for the museum: Lincoln Highway items, small square/round tables, candle telephone, candle molds, cooking utensils, antique baby items, new/used lighted curio cabinet, old floor model radio and anything else with ÒGomerÓ written/stamped on it.  Call Dave Whittington at (419)642-5911 for pick-up or to meet you at the museum.

 

á       WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS FROM THE WELSH SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP TO BE AT THE MUSEUM FROM 1:30-4:00 PM ON THE SECOND AND FOURTH SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH.  PLEASE STOP AT THE MUSEUM ON A SUNDAY WHEN IT IS OPEN TO SIGN-UP.  THANK YOU, ALICE BUSHONG-PRESIDENT.

 

 

á       The society voted and gave $50.00 to Jamie Fraley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Fraley, from Elida High School.  She is participating in the organization, Ohio People to People Student Ambassador Program, founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956.  The twenty-one day summer program will include meeting government officials, interaction with other students, educational activities and home visits in England, Wales and Ireland.

á      North American Festival of Wales Ð 2003

á       OUR NEXT WELSH SOCIETY OF NORTHWEST OHIO MEETING WILL BE HELD AT A DIFFERENT PLACE Ð THE CAIRO RESTAURANT AT 5:00 PM.  ON TUESDAY, JUNE 10, 2003.  YOU CAN HAVE SUPPER (ORDER OFF OF THE MENU) AND STAY FOR A SHORT BUSINESS MEETING.  PLEASE MARK THIS ON YOUR CALENDAR.
