á       Gomer School Will Be Closing - On Saturday, May 15 there will be a program and open house (open to the public) at the school.  There will be presentations given in the gymnasium with speakers throughout the afternoon.

1:30-2:00 PM - Laree Little-Gomer School history.

2:15-2:45 PM -  Dave Whittington - Admiral Byrd's Snow Cruiser

3:00-3:30 PM - Darrell Frysinger - Blizzard of 1978

3:45-4:15 PM - Ed Sandy - Gomer Sports

5:30-?              - Gomer Alumni (members only)

 

On Sunday, May 16 at 2:00 PM at the Gomer United Church of Christ, there will be a choral presentation.  Contact Linda Whittington (419-642-5911) or Carla Olds (419-999-5820) if you would like to participate.

We are asking Welsh Society members to bring 2 dozen cookies for a tea following the program.

The Gomer Welsh Community Museum will be open on both Saturday and Sunday from 1:30-4:00 PM.

Mark your calendar for this "Gomer Memories' Weekend".

 

á       Since many of the Welsh in this area migrated north from Patty's Run (now known as Shandon, Ohio), we are offering a bus trip to the 79th Annual Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 12, 2004 in Shandon, Ohio.  The cost of the trip will be $25.00 per person with the deadline to sign-up being June 2, 2004.  The bus will leave from the Gomer United Church of Christ parking lot at 8:30 AM, and arrive at Shandon at 12:00 noon.  Snacks for lunch will be available there, dinner (on your own) at the Congregational U.C.C. at 4:30 PM, departing at 6:00 PM with arrival back at Gomer by 9:00 PM.  We are hoping for a full bus of 55 passengers.  Please send your reservation and payment to Alice Ruth Bushong, 3837 Pioneer Rd., Elida, Ohio 45807.

          79th Annual Strawberry Festival

         Saturday, June 12 in Shandon, Ohio

                 Sponsored by Shandon Congregational UCC & The Shops of Shandon

                         Festivities from 10 AM to 6 PM

                         Antiques, country crafts, books, original art, Welsh gifts, outdoor vendors, music & refreshments

                        Traditional Supper at the Community House, serving from 3 PM to 7 PM.

á       Volunteers are needed to work at the museum on the second and fourth Sunday throughout the summer.  Please contact Alice at (419-331-3651).

á       A video of the St. Patrick's Day Parade with the Welsh represented will be shared at the next regular Welsh Society meeting on Wednesday, May 12, 2004.  Be sure to attend.
