Dragon Tales For July And August, 2008

  • Thanks to all who attended our Mother, Daughter, Friends Welsh Tea on May 4. We had a wonderful attendance (over 85). Hope you all enjoyed yourselves. Our Special Thanks to all the men who helped prepare, serve and do the cleanup work. Great job!

  • TOUR OF GARDENS: Saturday, July 19, 2008 (rain date, Sunday, July 20th). – 9:00 a.m. to 4:00p.m. Donation of $6.00. Sponsored by The Northwest Ohio Welsh Society. Gomer is located on Lincoln Hwy., east of Delphos, OH. (Watch for Garden Tour signs).

    The response to our phone calls was great. So, now we have plenty of workers to sell and take tickets, man the Farmer's Market and a supply of items to sell. Our sincere thanks to all who did the calling and to all of you who responded so generously.

    Plans are all in place, so we can now tell you where to find these lovely gardens:

    Advance tickets are available. They will be exchanged at any of the locations for information on the Gardens and a map, or you can make your donation at any of the gardens the day of the tour. For advance tickets, call Wilma Evans at (419)642-3445.

  • Scholarship Application forms: Completed applications are due August 1, 2008 and should be sent to Verona Sandy at 7225 Gomer Road, Gomer, OH 45809. The students that apply should be of Welsh descent.

  • Next meeting: July 9, 2008 in The Gomer United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall. 10:00 a.m.

  • Use your vegetables in thisWelsh Leek and Potato Soup Recipe-Swp Cennin A Thatws.

    2 large leeks
    1 lb. potatoes
    1 rasher of bacon (approx. 3 to 4 slices)
    1 pint milk
    1 oz. butter
    4 pint stock
    2 tablespoons chopped parsley
    salt and pepper
    cheese

    Cut up the bacon and fry in the butter in a saucepan. Peel and cut up the potatoes. Clean and cut up the leeks. Add the vegetables to the saucepan and fry for 5 minutes. Stir in the stock and add salt and pepper to taste. Put the lid on the pan and simmer for 30 minutes until the vegetables are tender. Add the milk and reheat but do not boil to avoid the milk curdling. Add the parsley. Serve with grated cheese. (Serves four).
