The Welsh Society of Northwest Ohio was established to celebrate, perpetuate, and preserve the Welsh culture in Northwest Ohio.

Welsh culture, language, religion, and customs have played an important role in the cultural fabric of Northwest Ohio beginning since the early 19th century.

Welsh immigrants established the small village of Gomer in the 1830ís. The Watkins, Roberts, and Nicholas families founded the village in northern Allen County along the banks of the Ottawa River and Pike Run.

The founders were farmers, merchants, craftsman, and, especially, singers. Part-singing was a way of life for the Welsh for all of recorded history.

Located just north of Lincoln Highway on Sandy Point Road, Tawelfan, a "peaceful place" in Welsh, is the name given to Pike Run Cemetery. There many markers and memorials adorned with Welsh names and traditional icons.
